SQL: Einführung und Datenbankdesign

Relational databases consist primarily of tables that contain data and the relationships between those tables. SQL is the database language used by all major relational database systems. SQL can be used to create databases and to insert, update, delete, and query data.

In this course, you will first learn how to use SQL to query, insert, update, and delete data in existing relational databases. In the second part of the course, we will focus on database design. By the end of this unit, you will be able to structure and distribute data across appropriate tables according to the requirements of a given scenario. The design process also includes defining the data types for each table column. Finally, you will learn how to import data from various data sources into a database.

In this course, we use the MariaDB (MySQL) database system. The knowledge gained here can be applied to all common database systems, such as Oracle, DB2, PostgreSQL, MS Access, and FileMaker.

General information

  • Querying Databases (SELECT): Retrieving data from existing tables.
  • Data Import: Importing data from external sources into a database.
  • Inserting Data (INSERT): Adding new data to existing tables.
  • Updating Data (UPDATE): Making changes to existing data in tables.
  • Deleting Data (DELETE): Removing data from a database.
  • Database Design: Principles and methods of database design.
  • Creating Database Tables (CREATE TABLE): Defining and creating new tables.
  • Relationships Between Database Tables: Using primary and foreign keys to link tables.
No specific prior knowledge is required. Basic knowledge of a programming language is helpful.
